As you may recall, last spring I received word that Oprah and I would soon be donning our best friend necklaces. No longer would Gayle be wearing the other half, but as an O Mag Insider, it would be me!
In nearly a year with the crew, I’ve gained a whole new circle of like-minded women (and one man) around the country. I’ve had the chance to promote, mostly on Instagram, a couple of O Magazine’s favorite products. I’ve gained editorial connections to someday writing for the magazine, even though I haven’t quite had an accepted pitch yet. (Key word: Someday). While I don’t know if I’ll continue as an Insider in the coming year, I want to point you to a couple of people I’ve met along the way and remind you of some of the highlights from the last year.
First, if you haven’t met her yet, Tonya Parker is the creator behind “The Real Chic Life,” a blog for women who want to live their best life through a little self-care. Tonya has taken the #OMagInsiders crew by storm, and I’ve been just delighted to see her thrive and star in several promotions. Shelley Webb is definitely one to follow on Instagram, especially if you find yourself even slightly in the business of marketing. For instance, did you know that the best time to post on Instagram is 8 pm, Pacific Standard Time? I, for one, did not until Shelley pointed it out! Finally, it is a real hoot getting to know former Real Housewives of New York City star, Kristen Taekman, both through the Insiders’ crew and online postings. Like all of the women, she reminds me to take great delight in just being me – because that’s who people are drawn to, after all!
Otherwise, it was kind of magical seeing my face in the May issue of the magazine:
And then, just a month later, while on a visit to Seattle, #OmagInsider Tanya Taylor and her cousin came over for a lovely dinner in the backyard:
Apparently the Pacific Northwest is the place to be in the summertime, because soon after that, an entire crew of cruisers grace our lawn for a brunch after their arrival into port. They are a fine group of people, I’m telling you.
Finally, to cap off the year, in early fall, I did a promotion with Aveeno Active Naturals. I am all about knowing what’s going into (and onto) my body, and getting to try out their lotion and body wash was no exception:
And, as you may have recently seen on Instagram, NYDJ was so generous to a handful of Insiders. I loved getting to try and take home a pair of my perfect jeans. I’ll be honest, jeans that tuck the forever-baby bump in and just look good are worth the investment.
So m’dears, there you have it: a 2017 reflection on all things Oprah, having little to do with what we normally talk about here, but just as fun, nonetheless.
While I hope to continue with the program this year (and visit the offices in New York City someday, too!), it’s been an honor traveling on the journey thus far.
To the new year!
So, what is it for you? What magazine do YOU love, that you wish YOU could be a part of the inside crew?0
