Title: Let Your Life Speak
Author: Parker Palmer
Synopsis: “With wisdom, compassion, and gentle humor, Parker J. Palmer invites us to listen to the inner teacher and follow its leadings toward a sense of meaning and purpose. Telling stories from his own life and the lives of others who have made a difference, he shares insights gained from darkness and depression as well as fulfillment and joy, illuminating a pathway toward vocation for all who seek the true calling of their lives.”
Why I can’t live without this book: I read this for the first time at a point in my life when I was trying to decide between staying in (full-time) ministry and returning to the classroom. And Palmer, a Quaker, provides such simple, wisdom-filled insight that encourages you to return to your roots to see who you’ve really been all along – because that’s who you are to be vocationally now. I’ve told more stories from this book than I can count, because truly, it’s helped me time and time again see who I’m supposed to be.
(One of my) favorite quotes: “Before I can tell my life what I want to do with it, I must listen to my life telling me who I am.”
So, Let Your Life Speak: did you read it? Did it change you? And, like me, do you possibly quote it more than any other book you’ve ever read?
