Author: Tina Fey
Synopsis: “Before Liz Lemon, before “Weekend Update,” before “Sarah Palin,” Tina Fey was just a young girl with a dream: a recurring stress dream that she was being chased through a local airport by her middle-school gym teacher. She also had a dream that one day she would be a comedian on TV. She has seen both these dreams come true. At last, Tina Fey’s story can be told. From her youthful days as a vicious nerd to her tour of duty on Saturday Night Live; from her passionately halfhearted pursuit of physical beauty to her life as a mother eating things off the floor; from her one-sided college romance to her nearly fatal honeymoon — from the beginning of this paragraph to this final sentence. Tina Fey reveals all, and proves what we’ve all suspected: you’re no one until someone calls you bossy.”
Why I can’t live without this book: Oh man. When it comes to the greatest generation of comedians SNL has ever produced (including but not limited to Amy Poehler, Molly Shannon and Maya Rudolph), there aren’t too many folks who come close to making me pee a little in my pants like Tina Fey. So, read this book. You need to laugh. You need to pee. You need to be reminded not take yourself – or life, for that matter – too seriously. And besides, you deserve a little joy in your life!
(One of my) favorite quotes: “Read! When your baby is finally down for the night, pick up a juicy book like Eat, Pray, Love or Pride and Prejudice or my personal favorite, Understanding Sleep Disorders: Narcolepsy and Apnea; A Clinical Study. Taking some time to read each night really taught me how to feign narcolepsy when my husband asked me what my “plan” was for taking down the Christmas tree.” Amen, Tina. Amen.
So, Bossypants: love it, hate it, want some more of it? I suppose the bigger question is, Are you a Tina Fey fan? (If you’re not, I’m not sure we can continue in this online relationship, just sayin’).
