Hwy 1 & tofu curry & sliding doors (Thankful Tuesday)

In the midst of what can seem like the mundane everyday of life – blowouts and a teething baby and laundry and yet another cup of coffee alike – I desire to recognize and cling to an attitude of thankfulness. Because, even if it takes us a few minutes, and we have to stop and breathe and squint our eyes to remember, there’s always something to be found that turns our hearts upward in thanks.

I’m thankful for…

*Road trips south on Highway 1, through Half Moon Bay and Pescadero and Davenport, down on to Santa Cruz. A reception-less cell phone and the endless ocean and a sun-filled periwinkle of a sky.

*A baby who’s just a wee bit more snuggly since he’s teething.

*Grace, grace, grace from friends when you forget to pack your toiletries altogether for a weekend away and have to turn around after having already been on the road for 45 minutes. Grace when plans then go awry and you have to cancel.

*Dreaming big and daring greatly when it comes to writing. I DO have something to say…

*Opening the sliding door on tough conversations, even when it’s hard. Even when it’s the last thing you want to talk about.

*Sunday nights with the HBH (Hot Black Husband): sushi delivery from our favorite little neighborhood spot, and SMASH and snuggles and comfy sweats (ie: the yoga pants uniform again, always) and time with our little man.

*A tofu and veggie curry dinner with friends, and not having to explain yourself or make apologies, because they just know you. They know you and they get you and because it’s mutual, it’s altogether lovely.

*Getting lost in Les Mis (the novel), and wondering why you’ve never read it before, but being so, so grateful for its perfection now.

*Writing your next-to-last paper for your Master’s degree – eight years and 24 classes later, the end is in sight! (10 days away!)

*the real, live saints in our lives.

*Gratefulness for journeys and for stories, and for relationships that continue and pick up where they’ve left off. There is depth in realizing that we’re not the same people we were 10, 15, 20 years ago, and that not only is that okay, but that it’s a good thing.

What about you What are you thankful for today?

  1. Cara Meredith, you are hilarious. I’m so thankful to know you. Also, I’m thankful for a handwritten friend note that appeared in my mailbox last week, which made my day almost as much as seeing the “City Target Coming Soon” sign over on Masonic and Geary yesterday. Thanks so much for linking up.

    1. Let’s just keep on passing the thanksgiving back and forth. But for now, I giggled on the way home this morning after seeing the city target sign right there on the corner of Masonic.
